The showpiece of our mountain railways is without doubt the world's first double-decker cable railway, which with a capacity of 180 persons sets new standards. It creates a direct connection in the Silvretta Arena and, by transporting 1620 persons per hour, reduces the waiting time to a minimum.
The world's first double-decker cable railway is also one of the largest passenger carrying suspension railways in the world. This superlative construction is a masterly achievement. During the winter season 1995/96 the ambitious project could be taken into service - after a construction period of only 5 months! Under the direction of the firm of Garaventa AG, a leading cable railway building enterprise the "No-waiting time-project" displayed numerous technical superlatives.
180 persons per cabin
The two super modern cabins have each 2 storeys. The bottom storey can accommodate 114 passengers. In the upper storey the cabin attendant and 65 persons have room, 12 of them having seats.
The thickest supporting-ropes ever used in a passenger cable railway
Never before have such thick supporting ropes been used in a person-transporting cable railway. All together they weigh no less than 223 tons. And while we are talking about weight: A fully loaded cabin weighs an imposing 27 tons!
