Life in the old Samnaun was sparse, strenuous and simple. A small farming village on the edge of Switzerland, populated by Lower Engadiners who tried their luck behind the mountain. In the 20th century, duty-free status and winter tourism helped the border village to international fame and initiated the transformation.

600-horsepower machines, hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of snow and dreamlike sunsets are his métier, satisfied winter sports enthusiasts his only goal. As piste manager and snow master, Johnson Carnot is responsible for the perfect winter in the Samnaun ski area - a big, varied and sometimes wonderful job.

In addition to the international Silvretta Ski Arena Samnaun/Ischgl, you can enjoy wonderful winter hikes as well as go snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in Samnaun.

Pure trail fun between Samnaun and Ischgl up to almost 2870 metres above sea level. The 100 kilometres of exciting natural trails start from there. Once at the top, you can admire the magnificent mountain landscape before plunging into the adventure and riding back down into the valley with plenty of momentum and fun. 

Helmut Tschiderer originally comes from the neighbouring Tyrol, has lived and worked in Samnaun for many years and is known far beyond the valley. Helmut is a sculptor by passion. This can be seen, for example, in the traces he leaves in Samnaun: whether it be the ibex at the Laret turn-off, a wooden figure in front of the pharmacy in Samnaun Dorf or various works of art in the Hotel Des Alpes.

He knows Samnaun like the back of his hand. To the great delight of locals and guests, he gladly passes on his knowledge in a passionate way. In the authentic valley museum, which he runs, you suddenly feel like you have been transported back many years. With his numerous and valuable commitments to the municipal administration, the church community, the theatre association and much more, he has helped shape the valley over the past decades.
