When Samnaun dresses up for the festivities on 1 August, a unique blend of Swiss tradition, village life, family fun and that summer holiday feeling comes to life. In the car-free village street of Samnaun Dorf, an atmospheric National Day awaits you, featuring a village market, entertainment, live music and a festive evening programme set against a stunning Alpine backdrop. 

Whether you’re planning a varied day trip, want to experience 1 August with the family, or are looking for a summer holiday centred around the National Day: on Swiss National Day, Samnaun offers exactly the atmosphere you could wish for on this day. Festive, lively, steeped in tradition and yet relaxed.

On 1 August 2026, the village market will take place in Samnaun village on the car-free village street. The market runs from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. During the day, there will be plenty to keep visitors entertained, with around 30 stalls, a highline show, bull riding, a bungee trampoline, games for children, airbrush face painting, and presentations by the emergency services and the Alpine Rescue Service. In the evening, there will be a speech, a lantern procession, fireworks and a bonfire. The speech will be given by Magdalena Martullo-Blocher. Live music will be provided by the Tschirgant Duo, among others.

As day turns to night, Samnaun once again reveals its particularly atmospheric side. The lantern procession provides a festive start to the evening, before Magdalena Martullo-Blocher’s speech underscores the official nature of National Day. To round off the evening, fireworks and bonfires create a spectacular backdrop amidst the mountain scenery.

1 August is the ideal time to combine the National Day with a summer holiday in Samnaun.
