Over Piz Munschuns

The route starts at the mountain station of the cable car on the Alp Trida Sattel. A steep but safe path leads to the summit of Piz Munschuns (2657 m). Here you have a magnificent view into the valleys, the surrounding Samnaun mountains and all the way to Austria. From the time after the snowmelt until late summer, an alpine vegetation rich in species impresses. The path leading over Unteralp to Laret or to the bus station is partly very steep and secured by ropes. Therefore, it should only be used by sure-footed and fearless mountain hikers in dry weather. The descent back to the cable car follows the ascent route.

The return journey is very easy, simply take the bus two stops and you are back at the starting point.

After leaving the cable car (S), you pass by the Alp Trider Sattelbahn to a signpost below the saddle lift and follow it in the direction of Piz Munschuns, Unteralp, Laret. After crossing the saddle lift, a hill is first climbed. Then continue on a small mountain ridge to the summit slope of Piz Munschuns. Here a narrow, rocky but well-walkable path with numerous switchbacks leads upwards to the grass-covered summit (1) with a large cross and summit register.

The descent initially proceeds largely over meadows on footsteps, with the markings usually attached to poles. At first, the route mainly runs eastwards, then you walk along a mountain ridge in a south-easterly direction. After some hairpin bends, you continue northeastwards along a slope downwards, with some places secured by a rope. You reach a fork in the path (3) in Unteralp, near which there is a geotope in the form of a monolith. Here, you continue to the right following the signpost to Laret downhill. At the next fork, turn right on footsteps, then continue downhill along the Mühlbach stream. At the next fork (4), go straight ahead on the same side of the Mühlbach to another fork at a bridge. To Laret, go right over the bridge; to Compatsch, keep left. A path straight down leads to a road that goes to the main road and bus stop (5).
