Swiss Disc Golf Championships 2026: Swiss championship titles to be awarded in Samnaun
Disc golf follows the basic principles of golf. However, instead of hitting balls, players throw Frisbees. The aim is not to hit a hole, but to land the disc in the yellow disc golf basket. The discs are thrown from designated tees into metal baskets, with the aim of using as few throws as possible. As well as throwing distance, the key factors are precision, tactics and the ability to adapt to the terrain and wind conditions.
Defending champions and international competition
The current field of competitors brings together Swiss champions, former winners in Samnaun and strong players from Germany and Austria. Melanie Meuter is entered in the women’s open category (FPO). In 2025, she won both the Swiss championship title and the Samnaun Mountain Challenge. Natalie Holloköi, the 2023 FPO winner of the Samnaun Mountain Challenge, is also returning.
In the men’s open category (MPO), Carl Rose from Germany leads the field based on his current PDGA rating. Rose finished second at the 2025 German Championships alongside Christoph Weiss. Among the Swiss players with recent tournament successes are Emile Barbe, winner of the 2026 Zurich Disc Golf Open, and David Hüsler, who won the 2nd Golf Meggen Trophy in 2026.
The field is also packed with big names in the Masters categories. Simon Achermann is competing as the reigning Swiss champion in the MP40 category, whilst Paul Francz is the defending champion in the MP60 category. In the MP50 category, former European champion Stephan Müller is among the highest-ranked players in the entire tournament.
Championship course in alpine terrain
The Swiss Championships will be held on an 18-hole course specially set up for the event at the Vita Parcours in Samnaun Dorf. The existing family-friendly disc golf course opened in 2020 and was expanded to include a pro layout in 2024. It is characterised by significant changes in elevation, as well as holes set in both open and wooded terrain. Martin Jenny, who designed the pro layout in Samnaun, is also entered for the championship. He won the MP40 category at the Samnaun Mountain Challenges in 2023 and 2025.
In addition to the 18-hole course in the valley, Samnaun has another nine-hole disc golf course at the Alptrider Sattel. This means the sport can be enjoyed both in the village and in high-alpine terrain. The course at the Vita Parcours was named the second-best course in Switzerland on the UDisc platform in 2026.
