On the trail of smugglers: A scenic but demanding high-altitude hike from the Kölner Haus (Serfaus) via the Ochsenscharte to Samnaun.

Beschreibung
The start of the route is at the Kölner Haus on Komperdell above Serfaus, which can be reached by gondola from Serfaus. The first 400 meters of altitude to Lazidkopf can optionally also be covered by the Lazidbahn. From Scheid, the path follows the contour line through the Lader Mooos to Arrezjoch. Here opens the basin of the Masner Alp, where the Hexensee with the staffed Hexensee hut is also located. Soon, you reach the Hexensattel and see Lake Gmairer. Immediately after Lake Gmairer comes the last short ascent to Ochsenscharte, at 2787 m the highest point of the high-altitude hike. The long-distance trail 712 continues here along the contour line towards Ober Malfrag and Alp Trida. On the described route, the descent begins towards Fliesser Stieralphütte, to the staffed Fliesseralpe, further to the national border at the Malfragbach and then via the cultural path through the beautiful mixed forest to Samnaun-Compatsch.
Sicherheitshinweis
The route was rated under favorable weather conditions; the current weather and forecasts must be strictly observed before starting. This hike requires basic alpine experience and orientation skills. Trekking shoes are recommended.
