1 August 2026 in Samnaun: Village Market, Ceremonial Address and Mountain Bonfires
The official fireworks display has been cancelled; a ban on fireworks is in force throughout the municipality.
Village market and Swiss traditions
For the National Day celebrations, the village street in Samnaun Dorf will become a car-free social zone. Between 10.00 and 17.00, around 30 market stalls will be showcasing regional specialities, handicrafts, souvenirs and culinary delights. Festive decorations will provide the perfect setting for a varied day of celebrations in the village.
Alphorn players, the Silvretta Klosters yodelling choir and the Säntis Trychler will bring Swiss musical traditions to Samnaun. The Trychler will be parading through the village in the morning and afternoon.
Family programme, shows and rescue organisations
Families will find plenty to do along the village street. These include children’s craft activities, bull riding, a bungee trampoline, airbrushing, face painting, a petting zoo and an air rifle shooting range. Several slackline shows and practice sessions invite visitors to watch and have a go. The programme is rounded off by talks featuring the eagle owl ‘Bubo’, an exhibition of vintage tractors and helicopter sightseeing flights.
The Samnaun Fire Brigade, the Samnaun Alpine Rescue Service and other partner organisations will be offering a special insight into their work. The presentations will take place from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. Among other things, drone flights are scheduled for 9.30 am, a presentation by the Alpine Rescue Service at 10.00 am, road rescue drills at 11.00 am and 2.00 pm, and a search operation involving a dog and a drone at 12.45 pm. Also taking part are Alpin Praxis Samnaun, Heli Bernina, Jenal Transporte and the fire brigades from Landeck and Schluderns.
Music and evening entertainment programme
At the Pra Grond marquee, the Tschirgant Duo will be providing live music throughout the day and into the evening. At 8.00 pm, the lantern procession for children will set off from the marquee. This will be followed at 8.15 pm by the musical opening with the Samnaun Music Society, and at 8.30 pm by the Samnaun Mountain Railways raffle draw.
From 8.45 pm, the focus shifts to the official festival programme. At 8.50 pm, the national anthem will be played and the organised bonfires will be lit. At 9.00 pm, National Councillor Magdalena Martullo-Blocher will deliver the ceremonial address. The Tschirgant Duo will then perform again. Extra buses will depart from Samnaun village, Musella, at 10.15 pm and 11.15 pm, serving all hamlets.
Fireworks ban and special traffic arrangements
Due to the significant to very high risk of forest fires, the officially announced fireworks display will not take place. Setting off fireworks is prohibited throughout the entire municipality of Samnaun. This ban expressly applies to private individuals as well. The bonfires organised by the municipal services will go ahead as planned. The necessary safety precautions will be strictly observed.
Special traffic arrangements are in place in Samnaun village for the village market. Parts of the village road are closed. Access to hotels, shops and car parks is via the routes indicated on the traffic plan. Guests, locals and day visitors are asked to observe the on-site signage.
