Beschreibung

A very easy but rewarding freeride route that, with a short 20-minute ascent from the ski area, opens up a very beautiful descent. The terrain is relatively little used and therefore mostly hardly tracked. The descent is divided into three sections, with the middle one in front of the rock ridge "Along the Church" being the most impressive. Although the slope faces southwest, due to its slightly incised position in the terrain, it often offers surprisingly good conditions well into April.

Geheimtipp

A very easy but rewarding freeride route that, thanks to the slightly incised terrain "along the church," often offers good conditions late into winter despite its south-facing exposure.

Sicherheitshinweis

The first slope is quite exposed to wind. Therefore, the snow on the first meters may be somewhat wind-packed and crusty. Caution should be exercised when entering the slope.

Ausrüstung

Avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe. The ascent can, if necessary, be done on foot, but climbing with skins is recommended.

Wegbeschreibung

After ascending with the Grivale cable car, you leave the lift to the right and cross into flat terrain until you leave the piste area. Here, skins are put on, and everything is prepared for the short ascent toward the pass.

The ascent is quite easy and presents no navigational difficulties. The skin track is laid out according to the steepness. Either you walk up to the pass and then traverse right over the ridge, or alternatively, you can already switch right below the pass and climb up the slope.

Over the short ridge, you reach the starting point of the descent with a magnificent panoramic view. Here, skins are removed, and all preparations for the descent are made.

The first descent is quite short. You start facing the lift but keep to the left in the descent and traverse across so that you remain above the imposing rock ridge.

After the traverse, you reach the second slope and continue towards the trail sign that appears slightly below. Now you can either descend directly to the right or alternatively enter the slope one run later. For that, you cross a short uphill section of a few meters. The choice between the two variants becomes clear afterwards.

At the foot of the rock ridge, you cross left again into the area called "Spatlas." The further descent can now be shaped according to individual wishes and preferences. You should only keep an eye on the lift; otherwise, you may get too low and only come out again on the valley descent towards Samnaun, which is often closed. The terrain is somewhat uneven and crisscrossed with stream beds. Especially in spring, some caution and foresight are advisable, as holes can occasionally open in the snow.
