47. Table Ice Hockey World Championship

The 47. Table Ice Hockey World Championships will take place from 31 August to 7 September.

A wooden board with a ribbon, 51 pennies and two Lego bricks: can these things make adults happy? And how! Table field hockey fans swear by them. They have developed a game out of it and even play their world championship year after year.

Table ice hockey is a board game that is as reminiscent of the Indian finger billiard Carrom as it is of established ice hockey. Like real pucks, coins whizz across the smooth, round disk, bounce against the boards or sail into the goal. The game is played one against one over two ten-minute periods; each player has a small plastic stick to move the disks (see also here).

Journalist Peter Linden is the inventor of a special game: table ice hockey. When Peter Linden was 17 years old, he came up with the idea that now inspires many people all over the world: all it takes is a round playing board, 5 painted 5-penny pieces per team, a ‘puck’ (in the shape of a 1-penny piece) and a flat Lego brick per player, which he uses to push his players. The aim of the game is to push the puck into the opponent's goal.

The table ice hockey world championships take place in Samnaun at the beginning of September with around 80 participants, with games being played in various pubs. Passers-by will always have the opportunity to try out the game before and after the competitions.
